Thermodynamic calculation of alkali-silica reaction
Concerning about the problem of climate change has motivated many scientists to look for ways to solve it. A lot of research work is devoted to the creation of “green” building materials due to the large contribution of building materials industry to the acceleration of warming processes. Glass concrete is an excellent example of a decorative material that uses recycled resources. But its long-term life can be threatened by the development of an alkali-silica reaction. The paper uses a theoretical method to study the possibility of the appearance of this reaction in concrete. Thermodynamic calculations showed that there is an exothermic process at the temperatures of 243K, 283K, 295K, and at 353 an endothermic one.
