Aerodynamics of double skin facades during the summer and winter periods
This article describes the process of the air flow in the double skin transparent facade (DSF) during the summer period in the windless condition by natural convection and mechanical airflow by means of heat recovery unit during the winter period for reducing energy needs of the building during the winter and summer period. Utilizing a renewable source of solar energy by transforming short-wave solar radiation into long-wave heat radiation in physical cavity of the double skin transparent facade with a positive reduction of energy flows to the building core (reduction of heat load from solar radiation during the summer period and elimination of the heat losses during the winter period), by using temperature-treated air from the cavity of the double skin transparent facade in winter period for the facade heat recovery unit integrated in the facade element with positive impact on reducing the energy demand for heating. With the correct geometry or the regime of the double skin transparent facade, we can reduce overheating in the summer and we can use the heat-treated air from the cavity effectively in the winter.
