Creep and Mechanical Properties of Concrete after Exposure to Elevated Temperatures
This paper discusses key processes and phenomena that occur when concrete is exposed to elevated temperatures up to 800 degrees Celsius which is of significant importance to high fire risk infrastructures such as Nuclear power plants. The majority of research in this field to date has concentrated on the mechanical properties of concrete such as compressive strength at elevated temperatures. In order to fully develop accurate computational analyses of the performance of concrete in fire, the long-term deformation of concrete known as creep at elevated temperature must be included. This is particular important since high fire risk infrastructures are designed for operation for a very long period of time and therefore their long-term deformation under elevated temperatures is of significant concern to design engineers. This paper presents a brief state of the art literature review regarding the mechanical properties of concrete and creep of concrete after exposure to elevated temperatures.
