Traffic Accidents' Distribution in the Highway Tunnels of Mountainous Areas and Preventive Measures
Traffic accidents in highway tunnels of mountainous areas have been a serious problem. According to the traffic environment of highway tunnels, an analysis was conducted based on the statistical data about the traffic accidents occurring in the six tunnels of the Shangyu-Sanmen Highway in China. The results indicated the characteristics of some traffic accidents, such as temporal and spatial distribution and patterns. Then, the influence of ventilation, lighting at the tunnel's entrance and exit and in the tunnel, and the causes of frequent accidents were analyzed. Finally, this paper demonstrated related measures to control and reduce traffic accidents.
