Long-Term Settlement of Four Overlapping Tunnels Subject to Repeated Train Loading
Long-term settlement of metro tunnels due to repeated train loading in a four overlapping tunnel case is investigated based on the finite element method and the empirical method, and the influence from the net distance and the train speed is discussed in detail. The results show: (1) Uneven settlement is observed on the tunnels with a maximum settlement occurring at the intersection of upper and lower tunnel axes. (2) The range of the settlement through is within about 4 D (diameter of the tunnel) from the intersection points, beyond which dynamic amplification effect of the four tunnels is too small to cause uneven settlement. (3) The net distance of the upper and lower tunnels has a nonlinear effect on the uneven settlement that increases sharply with the decreasing of net distance. (4) However, the train speed has little influence on the uneven settlement within the common speed range in practice.
