Composite Modulus of Composite Foundation under Embankment
The composite modulus is a key issue for calculating the settlement of foundation improved by Deep mixed (DM) columns. The traditional method of calculating the composite modulus does not capture the behavior of the ground improved by the DM columns beneath embankment. A new method of determining the composite modulus is proposed by finite element method. In addition, the finite element analysis shows the traditional method of calculating composite modulus may overestimate the function of DM columns in reducing the total settlement in the case of ordinary designing parameters of DM columns.
