The squeezing effect of prefabricated piles in soft clay usually causes heave in surficial soil around piles and lateral squeezing in deep soil. The theory of cylinder cavity expansion which is used to analyze the squeezing effect of prefabricated pile presently consider the process of pile-sinking as axis symmetric condition, cannot explain soil heave. This paper tries and analyzes the heave mechanism in surficial soil using the theory of sphere cavities expansion. And based on it, this paper advances a simple formula to estimate the range and magnitude of soil heave.
