Much has appeared recently, in the technical press and the publications of this Society, with regard to dams, due partly to the present activity in irrigation matters, and partly to the interest aroused by the failure of the Austin Dam. This paper, describing a dam of a kind rather common in California, but little known elsewhere, is presented with the hope of promoting profitable discussion and perhaps suggestions as to the construction of a weir of equal cheapness without the disadvantages of the type described.
