Research on the Influence of Built Environment of “Urban Village” on Travel Mode Choice in Shenzhen
Improving the built environment has been recognized an effective way to solve the worsening traffic and environmental problems. However, most researches on the influence of built environment on travel mode choice behavior are empirical studies, and the main factors affecting travel mode choice are diverse in different contexts of cities. Using the data from the sample survey of residents travel behavior in Shenzhen in 2014 and GIS-based land use measurements, we take the urban village in Shenzhen as a typical and unique urban form, and establish MNL model to reveal the relationship between travel mode choice and built environment in urban villages. The results show that mixed land use and high residential and job density contribute to more public transit choice, while high street density leads to the opposite way. It is found that the improvement of built environment is urgently needed in urban village areas.
