Observation and Testing of Diutan Gum in Grout Mixes
Throughout the Logan Martin Dam drilling and grouting program, different grouting mixes have been developed and modified according to the needs and objectives that have been encountered for the past 40 years. This paper builds upon the study and work performed by previous researchers. However, our focus is to discuss the processes and findings obtained under the current grout testing program. The purpose of the current field grout testing program is to find the "ideal" quantity of current admixtures and Diutan that will provide a stable grout mix. In order to determine the "ideal" grout mix design, our results are going to be measured based on the grout mix stability under pressure, bleed and Marsh flow. To achieve the desired performance, bentonite was eliminated and 0.48 lb of Diutan were used instead. The quantities of water, cement and superplasticizer remained constant.
