Discussion on the Theoretical Resistances of Railroad Curves
The larger part of the criticism and discussion of the paper presented by me (No. CLIX), that has come to my notice, is contained in private letters to me from friends and those interested in the subject of which it treats. The great diversity of opinions expressed shows that the subject is a complex one, and that the ideas held by many of us are neither clear nor exact. I am confirmed in the opinion that theoretical and analytical investigation is likely to be of great value in reaching a final solution of the problem of curve resistance, and devising means to obviate it.
