As the drought in the western United States lowered water levels at Lake Mead, the Southern Nevada Water Authority fought back by constructing the world's deepest subaqueous tunnel. The 3 mi long concrete-lined tunnel is designed to draw drinking water from an intake structure half buried at the bottom of the lake.
