WiscLEACH: A Model for Predicting Ground Water Impacts from Fly-Ash Stabilized Layers in Roadways
This paper describes a Windows-based application (WiscLEACH) for assessing ground water impacts associated, with leaching of metals from fly-ash stabilized soil layers used in roadway construction. Release of metals from the fly-ash stabilized soil is assumed to be sorption controlled. The application is based on two analytical solutions for solute transport and was calibrated using a two-dimensional finite element model for flow and transport in variably saturated media. Parametric studies indicate that maximum concentrations in ground water are most sensitive to depth to the ground water table, thickness and width of the stabilized layer, hydraulic conductivity of the stabilized layer and the aquifer, and the initial concentration in the stabilized layer.
