The Disintegration of the Egyptian Obelisk In the Central Park, New York
The decay of the stone of the Obelisk in the Central Park of New York has attracted a great deal of attention, on account of the publicity which has been given to its having been coated with paraffine in order to preserve it. I have therefore thought it would be of interest to this Society to know of the results of a special examination which I have made of it, in addition to those already communicated. It was supposed when the Obelisk was brought here that it was in a perfect condition, and that it had not suffered at all by its exposure to the climate of Egypt for 3 500 years.
