A Journey to Machu Picchu
This presentation will discuss the authors’ recent trip to Machu Picchu. It will include perspectives on engineering and culture as well as current sanitation conditions in the villages surrounding the site. The Incas were incredible builders. Their ability to flatten stones so that not a hair can be placed within the joints formed by one stone on another is a subject of great discussion. Furthermore, they understood how to build so that the structures could withstand earthquakes and design water supply and drainage channels. These topics will be explored in this paper.
