Reliability-Based Design Strengths Based on Prototype Testing with Small Sample Sizes
Design codes for composite structures include provisions for prototype load-testing, using small sample sizes. The paper compares alternative methods for treating load-test results and examines the influence of the type of sample statistic selected as the basis for estimating design strengths. It is shown that the mean strength is the most dependable sample statistic for the derivation of factored design strengths based on prototype testing with small sample sizes.
