History of the Marseille Canal in France
After a severe cholera outbreak, the French engineer, Franz-Major de Montricher, designed the 80 km Canal de Marseille from the Durance River to Marseille. The canal was constructed from 1839–1854, including the three arch-level Roquefavour Aqueduct, 393 meters long. The canal had 18 km of underground tunnels and 18 aqueducts.
