Analysis of Continuous Frames by Balancing Angle Changes
The interest that has been shown by the profession in the method of balancing fixed-end moments (introduced by Hardy Cross, M. Am. Soc. C. E.) as an alternative to the classic methods of analyzing continuous frames, has suggested the publication of a second alternative process based upon the conception of balancing angle changes to obtain joint rotations. The procedure of balancing angle changes is shown to parallel the procedure used in balancing and distributing fixed-end moments. No claim is made that the suggested method surpasses the method of moment distribution either in simplicity or in a reduction of time consumed by the analysis.
