Three-Dimensional Temperature Model for Shallow Lakes
A pseudo three-dimensional time-dependent analytical model is developed for the prediction of temperature distribution in lakes resulting from thermal discharges. For the special case of lakes having a uniform depth, rectangular geometry and a constant axial velocity explicit analytical solutions are presented. Sample calculations are performed to demonstrate the effects of the time variation of the thermal loading, different types of boundary conditions, circulation velocities, and eddy conductivity coefficients on the surface temperature distribution along the lake as a function of time.
