Rooms With a View
The recently completed extension of the Riverwalk in downtown Chicago comprises six reimagined blocks of walkways along the main branch of the Chicago River. Envisioned as six themed “rooms” connected by canopied sections beneath the bascule bridges, the new blocks add valuable space and give pedestrians access to nature in the city's core. Since construction would be carried out beside an active waterway and within a complex urban environment, the design had to address multiple geotechnical and structural challenges.
