At the time of its completion, in 1911, the Monroe Street Bridge, in Spokane, Washington, was the longest concrete arch bridge in the United States, and it soon became a revered symbol of the city. To restore the aging and, in some cases, crumbling structure to its former glory, engineers rehabilitated the main arch ribs and piers and after removing the deck, spandrel columns, and spandrel arches replaced them with matching elements that will last another 75 years.
