Departmental cooperation within the city government makes possible effective long-range traffic planning. The engineer is involved in this work in several specialized capacities. The organization and application of highway capacity studies and origin-destination surveys, the prediction of trends in the density of traffic, and the coordination of public utility planning under · the over-all plan are all functions of the engineer. The problems found in this work are many and varied, and their solution. is vital to community growth.
