It is difficult to present a synopsis of this paper, for it is more a rumbling collection of notes about “smells”, with some incidents illustrating their intensity, prevalence, persistence and movements, than a logical engineering presentation of a definite subject, with conclusions, as a suggested guide to follow. In fact, definiteness as to smells is impossible, even as to any standard of describing them, and the paper makes a point of that fact.
