Composite Floor Trusses, Design Considerations and Practice
Composite floor trusses Supporting composite wide rib floor deck and a concrete cover slab were used successfully on a 51 story high-rise building, "Le 1000 de La Gauchetière" located in Montreal. The steel structural proposal for the building was selected in a competitive design build tender over several alternate concrete structural solutions. The economy of the floor system was one of the contributing factors leading to the selection of the steel solution. The theory and design of composite trusses is reviewed, and equally important, the fabrication aspects and selection of individual components that permitted the composite truss scheme to be the most economical and viable floor system is discussed.
