The Application of Visualization for Construction Emission Monitoring
Excessive amount of human-made Green House Gas (GHG) emission in recent years has caused a major global warming problem; yet in the past two decades or so, their adversarial effects are better sensed and reported. The construction industry and its related activities are major producers of these emissions. Despite their contribution, there have been minimal efforts in effective and proactive sensing and visualization of these emissions. This paper presents a system for visualization of GHG emissions from construction equipments during the construction phase and its application in a real-life case study. A metamorphic representation of trees is used to further demonstrate the required number of trees to neutralize released GHG emissions. To that extent, a system for visualization of construction emission is implemented, and the perceived benefits and further developments are discussed. The paper concludes that visualization can be used as an effective tool to assist stakeholders and managers in monitoring and controlling the environmental impacts of construction activities.
