Eine Plattform für die Wissenschaft: Bauingenieurwesen, Architektur und Urbanistik
Confining itself largely to the period since 1900, this paper considers the evolution of larger dams exclusively from the standpoint of a major builder, the Bureau of Reclamation, United States Department of the Interior. Designs of gravity, arch, and earth dams have progressed as a result of the dictates of experience in such items as compaction, riprap, aggregates, grouting, cutoffs, artificial cooling, cement economy, and air entrainment. In step with these advances, specifications have developed and improved, in accuracy and detail. The whole record of the Bureau comprises in effect a resume of general trends in this important engineering field.
