An Analytical Solution to Plane Strain Consolidation due to Surface Loading within a Finite Poroelastic Media
An analytical solution was derived for Biot's consolidation within a finite rectangular poroelastic media due to a uniform normal loading. Appropriate Fourier and Laplace transforms and the corresponding inversions were implemented to obtain the exact solution. In particular, the boundary conditions for the displacements field were chosen with care to match the above integral transforms and inversions. The presented solution is in terms of summations of infinite series and very simple in its form. The presented analytical solution can be used to calibrate numerical algorithms for two-dimensional poroelasticity. Besides, it can provide us in-depth insights into flow and deformation coupling due to surface loading in finite two-dimensional porous materials.
