Soil Nailing-Walls of Many Facades
Soil nailing can be used with a wide variety of facades to meet architectural and structural needs of the design team and owner. Soil nailing generally consists of small diameter, reinforced steel elements, grouted in approximately 4 to 6 inch diameter sub horizontal boreholes. A reinforced shotcrete façade is generally applied for surficial stability. A rough gun finish is usually satisfactory for temporary support. For permanent walls, it may be desirable to smooth or sculpt the shotcrete façade, form a concrete wall directly against the shotcrete, or build a separate wall structurally connected to the soil nail wall. Exploring the wide variety of facades that can be used with soil nail walls can create many job opportunities for the design team and contractor.
