Effects of Solid Powder Anti-Stripping Additives on Moisture Susceptibility of Granite Asphalt Mixture
Compared with limestone and basalt, granite is obviously acidic with poor adhesion to asphalt, which seriously affects moisture damage. This paper studied the influence of TR-500S anti-stripping agent on long-term moisture susceptibility of granite asphalt mixture and the interrelationship between asphalt, TR-500S, and granite. Effects of TR-500S on moisture stability of acid aggregate AC-20 asphalt mixture were evaluated by indirect tensile strength (ITS) testing, accelerated aging testing, and Hamburg wheel tracking (HWT) testing. The results showed that TR-500S anti-stripping agent could significantly improve the long-term moisture stability and high temperature stability of granite asphalt mixture over those of control mixes and those containing hydrated lime, which could fully meet the requirements of heavy traffic. Finally, the interrelationship between asphalt with TR-500S and granite was characterized by FT-IR testing. The results showed that TR-500S could chemically bond asphalt and granite, improving adhesion of granite with asphalt mixed with TR-500S.
