Flow in the Sewers of the North Metropolitan Sewerage System of Massachusetts
During the past few years several series of current meter observations have been carried on at intervals in the Metropolitan Sewers in the vicinity of Boston, Mass., for the purpose, first, of obtaining a suitable means for recording the daily flow of sewage pumped at the various pumping stations, and, secondly, of studying the changes in the carrying capacities of the sewers, due to the deterioration of the internal surfaces. Data for the flow of sewage in channels of large size are somewhat scarce, and, therefore, the writer feels justified in presenting a short description of a portion of the work which he thinks may be of interest, and perhaps of service, to many.
