How New Materials Increased Man's Building Ability
The history of building is closely related to man's skill in the application of available materials. The progress made during any period depends on the coordinated use of knowledge, power, materials, and transport, and the economic ability of the people. This paper traces building history from the earliest times to the present. The various materials are discussed individually to show their effect on the cost and speed of construction. New erection methods are described.
