Suggested Steps to Follow for the Enactment of a Separate Structural Engineering Practice Act
The process to enact/implement a separate structural engineering practice act (not title act) reference [7] in a given State can be categorized into four separate steps/tasks. First, "know the Rules" prepare a proposed/draft State legislation/law/regulation (this maybe a new law or a revision to an existing law) that defines structural engineering, defines a structural engineer (i.e. what does a structural engineer do?) defines a structure and defines those structures that only a structural engineer is permitted to design or evaluate, see attached definitions. Educational, experience and examination requirements including provisions for grandfathering/transitioning shall also be included as part of this legislation.
