Repair of In-Service HDPE Water Distribution Pipe
An extensive, detailed survey of users of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) water pipe in the United States and Europe and of manufacturers of appropriate products has been conducted to determine the practicality and effectiveness of in-service field repairs of the HDPE pipe, including both fusion and nonfusion techniques. As a result of the study, commercially available mechanical (nonfusion) repair fittings and methods that have been successfully employed have been identified, based on their relative convenience and reliability. The present study focused on water distribution pipelines and force mains of sizes 2-in. through 16-in.
