Failure Behavior of Belled Pile under Combined Loads
This paper presents an experimental program to investigate the failure behavior of belled pile under combined load. The article focuses on the interation of different kinds of load on bearing capacity of belled pile, bearing capacity resistance mechanism of belled pile and bearing capacity characteristics of yield envelope surface under the combined load. The measured data and phenomenon are discussed. As a result, the following behaviors have been clarified: the yield envelope curve on M=Hh plane is an ellipse approximately, which can be roughly estimated by an equation from Vm, Hm, and Um. The failure curve on M-H plane also was an ellipse approximately. This ellipse can be determined by results of two laterally loaded pile tests. The interaction among vertical, lateral and moment load must be considered in the design of pile foundation.
