Introduction of Freeman Memorial Lecture
These lectures, begun in 1966, were established to commemorate John R. Freeman, a past President of the Boston Society of Civil Engineers (BSCE), of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). The Boston Society, the oldest professional engineering society in the United States, founded in 1848, merged with ASCE in 1974 and is now the Boston Society of Civil Engineers Section, ASCE.
