Guidelines for Achieving Optimum Fire Resistance in FRP-strengthened Reinforced Concrete Beams
In recent years, fiber-reinforced polymers (FRP) are widely used in strengthening and rehabilitation of structural members in buildings. However, there is very little guidance in codes and standards for fire design of FRP-strengthened concrete beams. This paper presents guidelines for achieving optimum fire resistance in FRP-strengthened reinforced concrete beams. A macroscopic finite element based computer model is applied to quantify the influence of various parameters on the fire response of FRP-strengthened concrete beams. Results from these of numerical studies are utilized to develop guidelines on insulation thickness and insulation configuration for achieving optimum fire resistance in FRP-strengthened concrete beams.
