Traffic at an International Airport
An important objective in the design of the Puerto Rico International Airport was the simplification of all types of traffic-that of passengers in the terminal, that of taxiing aircraft, and that of vehicles of all types. Studies were made to determine the character as well as the volume of existing and anticipated air-carrier traffic. Based on this information, the number of aircraft-loading positions (inbound, outbound, and in-transit) was determined, and these were related to an economical aircraft-taxiing pattern. Finally, a passenger-terminal plan was evolved having direct lines of circulation and providing a distinct separation of inbound and outbound passengers.
