Determining Ambient Water Temperatures
Regulations concerning discharge of condenser cooling water from power plants frequently refer to temperature rises above ambient temperature. A method to determine ambient temperature from statistical analysis of preoperational temperature records and the uncertainty of determining ambient temperature expressed in confidence limits is reviewed in regard to temperature criteria. Temporal and spatial variations in temperature records are examined. Data from an application to an estuary are included.
