Adaptive Risk Management for Future Climate/Weather Extremes
The Committee on Adaptation to a Changing Climate (CACC) of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) has the purpose to identify and communicate the technical requirements and civil engineering challenges for adaptation to climate change. In 2015, ASCE published the CACC white paper “Adapting Infrastructure and Civil Engineering Practice to a Changing Climate,” which calls for developing methods appropriate for incorporation in engineering practice, standards and codes for dealing with the non-stationarity and uncertainties of future climate/weather extremes. This paper describes the progress of CACC in developing these methods and incorporating them in a planned ASCE manual of practice tentatively entitled Adaptive Risk Management for Climate/Weather Resilience of Infrastructure.
