Hoisting Apparatus of the Canal Head-Gates at Sewall's Falls, N. H.
These head-gates are of interest from their large size and from the comparative ease and rapidity with which they can be raised or lowered by the hand-power of one man. They were built between one and two years ago from the designs of the writer, and have but very recently been brought into practical use, and, so far as yet tested, appear to meet the conditions with success.
