Using Neural Networks for the Prediction of Permeability in Jointed Rocks
The Water Pressure Test is frequently used for evaluating the permeability of rock masses by measuring the volume of water taken in a section of a borehole during given time intervals. In jointed rocks the relation between the absorption rate and pressure is not linear and a number of different views exist for determining the flow regime and the permeability of a test section. Considering these views a new method is introduced using Neural Networks for predicting the permeability of a testing section, which shows that Neural Networks are capable of predicting permeability values of jointed rock masses with high accuracy.
