Evaluation of Driven Pile Load Capacity Using CPT Based LCPC and European Interpretation Methods
In this paper, two CPT based interpretation methods, European and LCPC, were evaluated for providing better predictions of ultimate pile load capacities of driven piles. Fourteen driven piles supporting bridge foundations of Interstate Highway 280 in California were selected from database. These piles were used for testing the reliability of the interpretations. Ultimate loads of these piles were measured from pile load test results by using Davisson's method. The CPT data from the test sites were used with both interpretation methods to predict ultimate pile load capacities. Comparisons between measured and predicted ultimate loads showed that the LCPC method provided the best predictions. Variations in the interpretations with respect to both methodology steps are also explained.
