Water-Hammer Charts Including Fluid Friction
The water-hammer equations, including a friction term, are expressed in dimensionless form and solved with the aid of a digital computer using a finite difference scheme. Charts are compiled giving the maximum and minimum water-hammer heads along a range of simple pipelines for linear valve closure. The rigid water column theory is extended to include friction, and the range of applicability of the rigid column theory is demonstrated.
