Siphons: Some Scale-Effects in Models
A simple design of storm-overflow siphon for the city of Liverpool, England, has been tested in the laboratory at scales from 1/3 to 1/80. In this way, the effect of the absolute size of model upon the principal siphon phenomena is shown. These phenomena include discharge-coefficients, priming and depriming heads, and gage-pressures at the vertex. Eight models, geometrically similar to the prototype in all respects, have been used; also six models with square instead of circular cross sections, but otherwise geometrically following the prototype.
