Examples of Timber-Structure Failures
There is presented a brief history of timber structures with particular emphasis on their part in the construction program of World War II. A description of the common causes of failure in timber structures is followed by a presentation of examples of timber-structure failures. The selected examples are discussed in some detail with explanations offered as to probable causes of failure. It is concluded that timber structures that are properly designed, constructed, and maintained have their place in the construction field.
