Dredging Efficiently - Dredging Techniques and Its Effects to the Environment
This paper deals in detail with different dredging techniques, with their applications and effects. Special attention will be given to the effects to the environment. We are able to avoid harmful effects for a great deal, by using certain measures. Measures have to be associated with costs and the question is, how can we weigh costs against profit for the environment and how much money are we willing to spend on the environment. In certain circumstances dredging is necessary, or at least better than doing nothing at all. In other areas you refrain from dredging; nature will "clean" the sediments by settling of new clean sediments during years to come.
