Seismic Response of Pile-Supported Container Wharves
Recent earthquakes have highlighted the vulnerability of piled-supported container wharves to moderate-to-strong ground motion. In this paper, a detailed seismic analysis is performed for a typical pile-supported container wharf. A three-dimensional nonlinear analytical model is constructed using the OPENSEES platform. Nonlinear beam-column elements with fiber sections are adopted to adequately capture the nonlinear deformations in the pile-deck connection. The wharf deck is modeled using rigid beam elements, and P-Y spring elements are used to represent the subsurface condition below the wharf. A series of pushover, modal, and time-history analyses are performed to evaluate the seismic response of the model.
