Prospects and Programs - Engineering Education
The principal influences affecting the present status of engineering education are discussed in this paper. Major trends in population, economy, and industry have a definite relation to the type of curricula offered in the engineering schools. The writer briefly presents the problems faced by today's engineer—depletion of natural resources, unstable economy, increasing population, and others—and the effect of these problems on education is evaluated. Several possible avenues of solution are explored, and ways of utilizing available engineering talent to the fullest degree are suggested.
