Effectiveness of FRP Wrap for Temporary Repairs in R/C Bridge Column Applications
Fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) wrapping is used by bridge owners in several temporary (5 to 7 year) repairs to control delaminations in reinforced concrete (R/C) bridge columns. This paper describes results of a study where different concrete removal strategies with one layer of FRP wrapping were evaluated for their effectiveness in containing delaminations in reinforced concrete columns. Results indicated that FRP wrapping was effective for short-term (5 to 7 year) applications in confining the repaired/delaminated concrete columns and concrete removal strategies did not influence the durability during the six year monitoring duration.
