Performance Investigation of Large Diameter Water Pipe Materials (24-inch and Larger)
This paper presents a study of water main inventory and performance for diameter sizes of 24-inch and larger from 21 water utilities and 16 states across the United States. The study is conducted by the Center for Underground Infrastructure Research and Education (CUIRE) and focuses on different pipe materials used nationally in water transmission applications. Objectives of this study were to gather data from different water utilities to analyze the population served by the pipeline facility, miles of pipeline material in use, age and diameter, and the performance rates of each pipeline material. This paper concludes with comparison of diameter range, age, and failure rate for the pipe inventory of responding water utilities.
